City News for the Residents of Dawsonville—AUGUST 2021

  Message from your Mayor…….

I hope this finds you all well and healthy. As we approach another round of Covid, please take all the precautions requested by health professionals. It is becoming a big problem in our community, and we need to work together to be safe. The City continues to maintain safety for its employees and customers.  We will be continuing to operate as normal until such time as we must restrict access to City Hall.

Please join us in the park for a variety of outdoor activities.   Exercise stations have been installed throughout the park, and the concrete floors for the new pavilions should be poured this week. Hopefully you will be able to enjoy an open air environment with your friends and family.  Remember “Food Truck Fridays”!  The next one is Sept 3rd.  Come early to grab something to eat, as the vendors sometimes sell out quickly with the crowds.  Also, the Farmers Market hours have been extended from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. each Saturday, with lots of great produce and other items.  Join us at the Farmers Market Pavilion to see all they have to offer.

Please be safe and continue to monitor and adhere to all the recommendations for Covid.  Remember to support our local businesses as they continue to struggle.

Should you need anything from the City, please contact us and we will try to get you answers to your questions and support your needs as appropriate.

A  message from your City Manager Bob Bolz …….

Main Street Park is evolving while continuing to receive substantial use. Concrete pads have been poured and 13 of 14 fitness stations are installed and receiving heavy use.

The August food truck night was held at the Farmers Market to good crowds with the food vendors doing very well. The concrete pad for the skate park has been poured and the elements are being manufactured. We hope the installation will occur in late August with a target of September 3rd for a Grand Opening as part of Food Truck Friday, which will feature a professional skater and giveaways.

Renovation and paving of Main Street, Memory Lane, and Jack Heard Street should start in September, as well as a joint city/county paving of Howser Mill Road.  Also, extensions to the Allen Street sidewalk should start later this month and will better connect the Farmers Market to the sidewalk along Hwy. 53, Main Street Park, and the City Hall Municipal complex. The Amicalola Regional Farmers Market has revised their hours of operation.  They will continue to be open on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m.to 6:00 p.m. They will no longer be open on Fridays. On Saturdays, they have extended their hours from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Dawsonville is the birthplace of stockcar racing.  The Dawsonville History Museum is home to the newly renovated Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, which displays many Georgian men and women who pioneered the beginning of NASCAR with their great contributions to the safety and raw talent of racing.  Everyone knows Dawsonville to be the Home of our current NASCAR Champion, Chase Elliott, featured in one of the newest exhibits on display with his championship trophy and trophies from the 2020 season, and the all-time Most Popular Driver, Bill Elliott, who’s career from beginning to end (in trophies) is on display in the Elliott Family Room.

They monitor effluent sewage flow to make certain the treatment plant is operating at peak efficiency. They must ensure the daily quality of our drinking water. David and his fellow workers make chemical, operating, maintenance and laboratory changes when appropriate. Their level of customer service is outstanding, and they are proud to serve the city.

David is the newest member to our team, having started working here in July. David and his wife, Bonnie have four sons, Kincaid, Colt, Brody, and Uriah. They live in the Rain Hill subdivision.
