City News for the Residents of Dawsonville— OCTOBER 2021

  Message from your Mayor…….

It’s a busy time in North Georgia, especially here in Dawsonville. There are festivals all over the mountains and people are driving from Atlanta and the Carolinas to look at the leaves and the beautiful scenery we have in North Georgia. The streets of Dawsonville are very crowded on the weekends, with tourists looking for something to do. The Kare for Kids organization is hosting the 54th Annual Mountain Moonshine Festival October 22–24th. Please remember that as you travel through downtown Dawsonville. The City has worked with Kare for Kids to move the festival off of the streets of downtown Dawsonville, and allow people to move easily through town during the festival.

Our city employees have been working hard to spruce up our city, as we always do to get ready for this huge influx of visitors.  Please be careful as you see them working alongside the roads, cutting grass and weed eating and doing other maintenance. They are working to maintain our streets year round, but are particularly focused this time of year, as there is so much traffic.

Please enjoy the improvements that have been made to Main Street Park, and join us as the City continues to operate and improve this great facility for our community.

Currently, two council positions are up for re-election, and two people are running for each of the two posts.  Please remember, early voting is going during the week at the voter registration office here in  Dawsonville and Saturday voting is available twice during this time.  Additionally, the election will be held on Tuesday, November 2.  Please remember to go vote for whom ever you think can represent you the best. Wishing you a great leaf season, and be careful out there as you travel.  Watch out for our children.

A  message from your City Manager Bob Bolz …….

Fall is upon us and what a great season; more comfortable temperatures and glorious leaf colors as nature prepares for winter. We look forward to the hundreds of thousands of people that will be coming to our area for area fall festivals, football, outdoor recreation, leaf looking, and of course the famous Moonshine Festival. Please exercise caution while driving in the area.

Our October Food Truck Night was a great success. The next event on the horizon is our Christmas Tree Lighting on Saturday, December 4th. As always, in addition to the lighting of the tree and lighted decorations throughout the city, we will offer an afternoon parade bringing Santa to town, the Jingle Market, musical entertainment, dance performances, and food trucks. Come out and enjoy some good food, fun, and fellowship as we kick off the holiday season.

Full depth reclamation paving of Main Street, Memory Lane, and Jack Heard Street should start in November. The joint City/County paving of Howser Mill Road has begun. The extensions to the Allen Street  sidewalk continues to better connect the Farmers Market to the sidewalk along Hwy. 53, Main Street Park, and the City Hall Complex. Please pardon our progress and exercise special care when driving around construction areas.

On November 11th, our community will pause to honor our veterans. Please make a special effort to say thank you to one of these brave men and women who served to protect our freedom and this great nation.
